Senza dubbio, lo splendido paesaggio, la giovialità dell’organizzazione, l’atmosfera incredibile che si crea nella settimana della gara e le imprese sportive dei primi arrivati costituiscono il successo di questa prova, garanzia di un’avventura fantastica.
In soli 3 anni la gara ha acquisito la propria fama.

Il Tor des Géants® oggi appartiene alle gare di trail più famose. Attira numerosi dilettanti, ma anche professionisti tra i migliori di questa disciplina sportiva. Per i primi: 4 giorni e 3 notti di gara, per gli altri: un massimo di 150 ore, ovvero 6 giorni, 6 notti e 6 ore. Come per la maggior parte delle gare a lunga distanza, lo scopo è di oltrepassare la linea di arrivo e finire la gara. Il tempo non è così importante in fin dei conti! Ma soprattutto, i corridori cercheranno un’immersione totale, un viaggio alla ricerca dei propri limiti fisici e mentali, che susciterà emozioni mai provate prima. Fatica, gioia, lacrime, dolore, piacere ed emozione si mischieranno continuamente: si parla già del “mal di Tor”!

Alcune testimonianze dell’edizione del 2011 la dicono lunga su questa grande e lunga prova sportiva!
Patrick Jarret (FRA) ha “sconfitto” il Tor des Géants® nel 2011 (44°) : “Sono arrivato alla partenza ben allenato e sufficientemente riposato. Ne avevo bisogno, poiché ho dormito due ore il primo giorno e poco di più i giorni seguenti. Ho avuto maggiore difficoltà con il cibo e l’alimentazione si è limitata a dei gel energetici. Ho perso 4 kg! Nel complesso resta un ricordo fantastico: la gara di notte con la sola illuminazione della lampada frontale, l’accoglienza straordinaria degli abitanti dei 32 paesi attraversati, la solidarietà e il conforto trovato con gli altri concorrenti all’alba di un nuovo giorno di gara. Anche il fatto di pensare, perché in quasi cinque giorni si ha il tempo di pensare alla propria famiglia e ai figli lasciati a casa. Ma che gioia immensa ritrovare Courmayeur dopo tanto sudore! Ci sono stati anche dei momenti di semplice felicità, come il sorgere del sole sulla montagna, degli incontri magici con dei camosci e la percezione di essere andati oltre se stessi.”

Gianni Savoia (ITA), ultimo concorrente (300°), era molto commosso: “Ho sognato questo momento per tutta la settimana, l’arrivo... non pensavo di riuscirci e ora la gioia è immensa! L’endurance trail è una delle poche gare sportive in cui tutti possono oltrepassare la linea di arrivo con la stessa gioia e la stessa accoglienza dei primi arrivati! Noi, i dilettanti, riusciamo a condividere gli sforzi, i dubbi e le stesse emozioni dei professionisti! Ed essere festeggiati come dei campioni!”

Il Tor des Géants® 2012: 4 continenti ai piedi dei 4 giganti delle Alpi!
Le iscrizioni alla 3a edizione del Tor des Géants®, aperte mercoledì 1° febbraio, risultavano complete dopo soli 27 minuti. Nel 2011, le iscrizioni limitate a 550 pettorali sono state chiuse dopo quattro giorni! Oggi, con l’afflusso di massa, le cifre sono leggermente aumentate: l’edizione del 2012 del Tor des Géants® accoglierà 600 partecipanti tra cui 63 donne.
Questa edizione sarà più internazionale, infatti parteciperanno 26 nazioni provenienti da 4 continenti: America, Europa, Asia e Oceania. L’unica a mancare è l’Africa, con grande dispiacere dell’organizzazione che per il 2013 avrà l’obiettivo di riunire i 5 continenti! Le 2 nazioni con più iscritti sono: l’Italia (47% dei partecipanti) e la Francia (26%). Al 3° e 4° posto troviamo la Spagna (7%) e il Giappone (3%).

Gli altri paesi partecipanti sono:
- Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgio, Canada, Danimarca, Finlandia, Germania, Grecia, Lussemburgo, Norvegia, Nuova Zelanda, Paesi Bassi, Polonia, Portogallo, Regno Unito, Singapore, Stati Uniti, Svezia, Svizzera e Ungheria.
Il corridore più giovane a lanciarsi nell’impresa è lo svizzero Jules-Henri Gabioud, 24 anni, grande vincitore dell’edizione 2011 in 79 ore, 58 minuti e 26 secondi. Mentre il partecipante più anziano alla partenza di questa 3a edizione è un italiano di Aosta, Angelo Gandini, 73 anni. Nel 2011, il concorrente più anziano a concludere la gara è stato Yves Meurgey, 70 anni, (274° all'arrivo).

Caratteristiche della gara

330 km, 24.000 m di dislivello positivo, 25 passi da superare a oltre 2.000, un massimo di 150 ore di corsa, una tappa unica nel cuore dei “giganti” della Valle d’Aosta.

Il Tor des Géants® percorre le due Alte Vie della Valle d’Aosta, diventando così un viaggio autentico nel cuore delle vette più alte d’Europa. I sentieri serpeggiano ai piedi del Monte Bianco (4.810 m), del Gran Paradiso (4.061 m), del Monte Rosa (4.634 m) e del Cervino (4.478): i 4 giganti delle Alpi.

Thanks to a record number of entries, which closed within 27 minutes, the 3rd edition of Tor des Géants® is going to be thrilling! Without a doubt, the fabulous scenery, the fun spirit of the organization, the incredible atmosphere that builds throughout race week, and the sporting drive of the first across the finish line together make up the success of this event - guaranteeing a fantastic adventure.

The race has made a name for itself in just three years

Today, the Tor des Géants® is one of the most famous trail races, attracting many amateurs but also some of the best professionals in the sport.
 
For the top places: 4 days and 3 nights of competition, for the others: maximum 150 hours, or 6 days, 6 nights and 6 hours. As with most long distance races, the aim is to cross the finish line and complete the race. The time is not that important when all is said and done! But above all, runners will seek total immersion, a journey to discover their own physical and mental limits, which will stir emotions never felt before.
A continuous mixture of exhaustion, joy, tears, pain, pleasure and excitement: that is what we mean by "Tor-ache"!
 
What they say about the 2011 edition speaks volumes about this mammoth sporting event!

Patrick Jarret (FRA) "conquered" the Tor des Géants® in 2011 (44th), "I came to the starting line trained up and well rested. I needed to be, because I slept two hours the first day and not much more the following days. The biggest problem was food, as nutrition was limited to energy gels. I lost 4 kg! Overall, I have a fantastic memory of it, the night race with just my headlamp for light, the amazing hospitality of the people from the 32 villages we went through, and the solidarity and support from the other competitors at the dawn of a new day of competition. Even the thinking, because during almost five days you have time to think about your family and children at home. But what immense joy at reaching Courmayeur after so much sweat! There were also moments of sheer happiness, watching the sun rise over the mountains, magical encounters with chamois antelopes and knowing that I have gone beyond my limits."

Final competitor (300th) Gianni Savoia (ITA), was overcome with emotion, "I dreamt of this moment the entire week long, the finish line... I never thought I'd make it and now the joy is immense! Endurance trails are one of the few races where everyone can cross the finish line with the same joy and receive that same welcome as the first finishers! We amateurs get to feel the strain, the doubts and the same emotions as the professionals! And to celebrate as champions!"

Entries to the 3rd edition of the Tor des Géants® opened on Wednesday 1 February, and were full after only 27 minutes. In 2011, entries were limited to 550 bibs and closed after four days! Now with increased interest, the figures have gradually increased. The 2012 edition of the Tor des Géants® will welcome 600 participants including 63 women.
 
This edition will be more international, in fact 26 countries from 4 continents will take part: America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. It is with great sadness that Africa is not represented as our goal for 2013 was to unite the five continents!
The 2 countries with the most entries are: Italy (47% of participants) and France (26%). At 3rd and 4th place are Spain (7%) and Japan (3%).
